Bill MaCormick's paints New Zealand - people, the buildings around them and the landscape. Stylistically there are influences from his exposure to French impressionist works and early watercolours. A feeling for open spaces and the marks of those who have gone before us come through in much of the work. In his small town New Zealand series, his subjects, those places with familiar old street frontages that have never changed, Managweka, Hikurangi, Ohakune, are empty of modern life, cars and people. The artist has left it to our imagination to populate, to complete these scenes ourselves.
